If using turkey bacon, heat 1 tablespoon butter with the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the bacon until crispy and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. If using pork bacon, cook it until crisp and leave the rendered grease in the skillet.
Add the remaining butter if using turkey bacon.
Cook the onion and bell pepper for 3 to 5 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Add the cabbage in two batches, stirring until wilted between additions.
Season with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
Reduce heat to medium, cover, and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage reaches your desired tenderness.
Stir the bacon back into the cabbage.
Serve warm.
- Store leftover cabbage in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Warm gently in a skillet over medium heat or microwave until heated through.
- Freeze in an airtight container for up to 2 months. The cabbage will be softer after thawing, but will still taste delicious.
Don't overcrowd the pan. Adding the cabbage and batches helps it wilt evenly.
- Cook the bacon until very crispy, since it softens slightly once mixed into the cabbage.
- Taste before adding extra salt because Cajun seasoning often contains plenty already.
- Covering the skillet helps the cabbage become tender while still maintaining some texture.
- For more caramelized flavor, uncover the skillet during the last few minutes of cooking.
