This Petite Blackberry Crumble recipe is not only adorable, it's packed with sweet, tart and tangy flavors from the fresh, juicy blackberries! The delicious crumble crust is the perfect topping for this small batch dessert.

Petite desserts are not only super cute, they're also perfect for when you want a treat but are only feeding one or two. There are tons of single-serve and petite sized baking dishes available at retailers that make for a lovely presentation.

Another plus is that you can serve your desert in the baking/cooking dish - just grab a spoon and dig in! With Valentine's Day right around the corner, this Petite Blackberry Crumble is the perfect dessert for date night.

Preparing this Petite Blackberry Crumble is a breeze and because it's such a small dish, it bakes up in no time. You also have lots of flexibility in what fruits you can incorporate in this crumble. If you don't already have a 6-inch cast iron skillet - I suggest you add one to your Amazon cart ASAP! This is the cutie I used for this recipe.

How to Make this Petite Blackberry Crumble

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease or spray a 6-inch cast iron skillet and set aside.

Heat a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add blackberries, sugar and lemon juice and stir to combine ingredients. Bring blackberries to a boil then reduce heat to medium, add cornstarch and simmer berries until they begin to soften and break down, 3-4 minutes. Transfer berries to prepared skillet and set aside while you make the crumble topping.

In a small bowl, combine flour, oats, sugar, salt, oil or butter, and lemon juice. Stir with a fork until everything is moistened and the crumble topping starts to clump together. You don't want a wet batter, just moistened and crumbly. Pour crumble mixture over top of blackberries and spread out into an even layer, leaving some of the edges exposed.

Bake crumble in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until crust is a light golden brown. If desired, top with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt and enjoy!

What Other Fruits Can I Use in this Crumble Dessert?

Any variety of berry, stone fruit, apple or pear would work beautifully in this crumble. Feel free to switch things up according to the season!

Some suggestions that I've mentally bookmarked to try soon are strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peaches, apricots, plums, cherries, different varieties of apples and any variety of pear. You may also use a combination of an any of these fruits to create a mixed fruit crumble with different layers of flavor! You can also try adding fresh herbs to your fruit mixture for some freshness and brightness, such as thyme or basil.

Be sure and let share with us what you come up with in the comments section below!
