A refreshing, zingy non-alcoholic beverage with mint, lime, grapefruit, and ginger beer. This grapefruit ginger beer mocktail is an excellent alternative to a traditional Moscow mule!
I will be celebrating 3 years of sobriety next month and I think it's about time I started sharing some of the delicious mocktails I have discovered over the years!
This ginger beer mocktail is super refreshing and has the perfect punch of ginger flavor without being overpowering. The tart grapefruit juice, fresh mint, and lime balance the flavors in this virgin drink beautifully!

Ingredients You Need To Make This Recipe
- Fresh mint leaves. For a refreshing minty flavor.
- Fresh lime juice. To add fresh citrus flavor.
- Ruby red grapefruit juice. For the perfect amount of tartness and a lovely pink color.
- Ginger beer. For a spicy, zippy ginger flavor. Use good-quality ginger beer. I love Cock and Bull and Fever Tree!
- Grapefruit slices and fresh mint leaves. To garnish our drink and make it pretty!
How To Make This Drink
- Add the mint leaves and lime juice to a cocktail shaker and muddle the mint leaves well with a muddler or the bottom of a wooden spoon. This releases the oils in the mint leaves.
- Add the grapefruit juice and a small handful of ice cubes to the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously with the top on until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty.
- Fill two cocktail glasses with ice and divide the grapefruit mixture evenly among the two glasses.
- Top off the glasses with ginger beer until full, and gently stir the mocktails with a cocktail spoon.
- Garnish each drink with a wedge of grapefruit and a few fresh mint leaves. Enjoy!
Variations and Substitutions
- You can substitute just about any fruit juice for grapefruit juice if you like. Try orange juice, pineapple juice, or cranberry juice! I recommend using 100% fruit juice.
- You may substitute fresh lemon juice for lime juice.
- If you do not have ginger beer, try flavored sparkling water or non-alcoholic prosecco!
What Is A Mocktail?
A mocktail is a non-alcoholic alternative to popular cocktails and they can be made just as complex and flavorful as their alcoholic counterparts. You may have also heard mocktails referred to as virgin drinks.
Almost any cocktail can be turned into a mocktail and there are even several brands of non-alcoholic spirits, wines, and beers on the market to give you the same flavor profile you would get in a cocktail.
Mocktails are an excellent option for those looking to enjoy the flavors and variety of mixed drinks without the added effects of alcohol.
Is This Drink Similar To a Moscow Mule?
This ginger beer mocktail is similar to a Moscow Mule in that it has the ginger and lime flavors that are present in a Moscow Mule. However, this mocktail calls for grapefruit juice instead of vodka for a fruity, citrusy twist!
What Is The Best Ginger Beer For Mocktails?
Ginger beer brands can vary greatly and in intensity. I love a ginger beer that has a nice punch of ginger flavor with some sweetness to balance out the spiciness and zip.
Here are some of my favorite ginger beers for mocktails:
- Maine Root Ginger Beer
- Q Ginger Beer
- Bundaberg Ginger Beer
- Barritt's Ginger Beer
- Old Jamaica Ginger Beer
